The 2024 Rallye du Mont-Blanc, a thrilling sixth round of the French Rally Championship, will be remembered as the stage where rally legend Sébastien Loeb once again defied time, competition, and expectations. At 50 years old, the nine-time World Rally Champion (WRC) clinched victory in his debut outing with the Alpine A110 Rallye GT+, alongside co-driver Laurène Godey.
Loeb’s return to the French championship after a five-year hiatus was nothing short of spectacular. Partnered with his long-time co-driver and partner, Laurène Godey, the duo demonstrated seamless communication and precision across the rally’s 14 timed stages. Their synergy was pivotal in navigating the demanding Alpine routes around Morzine, where Loeb last triumphed in 2001.
Despite fierce competition from younger rivals like Léo Rossel (Citroën C3) and Yoann Bonato (Citroën C3), Loeb gradually dominated the event.
After initially trailing, he seized the lead in Stage 6 (ES6) and never looked back, securing six stage wins and finishing 10.7 seconds ahead of Rossel.
Loeb’s victory marked Alpine’s first Rallye du Mont-Blanc win since 1977, cementing the A110 GT+ as a force in rallying. Designed for the 2024 season, this rear-wheel-drive marvel combines agility with raw power. The car’s adaptability shone on the rally’s varied terrain, from dusty stretches to technical mountain passes. Loeb praised its responsiveness, stating it felt “natural” despite being his first competitive drive in the model.
