Description

Highly detailed, discontinued & now very rare EBBRO diecast model of the #19 WedsSport Racing Project Bandoh Celica GT300 car in 1/43 scale, measuring approximately 10cm in length.

History (GT wiki source):

In 2003, revisions to the Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) regulations gave race teams greater flexibility in selecting engines, transmissions, engine orientation, and drive layouts. Racing Project Bandoh’s chief, Masaaki Bandoh, quickly recognised the opportunity. When Toyota retired the engine and transmission from its GT500 Supra under the new rules, Bandoh realised the components could be adapted to a rear-wheel-drive–converted Celica, creating what would become the ideal GT300 contender: the WedsSport Celica.

However, fitting the Supra’s powertrain into the Celica was far from straightforward. As the Celica’s engine bay had originally been designed for a transverse installation, the entire compartment had to be re-engineered. The turbocharged 3S-GTE inline-four was mounted as low as possible, and the suspension was redesigned with double wishbones at all four corners, integrating Supra hardware with the Celica’s chassis.

The WedsSport Celica struggled in its debut at Sportsland Sugo, but quickly demonstrated its potential. At the following race, it secured pole position in its class with ease, repeated the feat in the next round, and went on to claim victory. The car’s handling was widely praised, some even remarked that it outperformed the GT500 Supra in agility.

This item comes in its original box, outer cardboard sleeve & is secured to its display plinth, all in overall very good condition, especially considering its age.
